Second round of TB tests in Joliette

Lanaudière health officials are embarking on a second round of tuberculosis tests after an infected patient exposed nearly 100 visitors and staff at a local hospital emergency room to the highly contagious bacteria.

So far, 14 patients, family members and hospital staff at Centre Hospitalier Régional de Lanaudière in Joliette have tested positive for TB.

MONTREAL — Montreal police are hunting for a man who walked into a store on Henri Bourassa Blvd. East Wednesday morning and opened fire.

The suspect walked into the store at around 10:30 a.m. and shot a male employee several times in the upper body then fled on foot along Plaza Ave. Police describe the suspect as a black man in his 20s, wearing a blue baseball cap and a striped shirt.

Liban Sheikhadem, 26, is wanted in connection to Ottawa’s sixth homicide of 2011.

Ottawa police issued a Canada-wide warrant for Liban Sheikhadem Wednesday morning.

Sheikhadem, 26, is wanted for one count of second degree murder in connection to the death of Henry Belmore on July 31, 2011.

A 24-year-old Oakville man is in hospital after he was the attacked early Wednesday morning while riding his bike.

Police said the man was riding his bicycle in the area of Westoak Trails Boulevard and Treetop Terrace near Old Oak Park at approximately 2 a.m. when he was pulled by a male and dragged into a nearby wooded area where another suspect was waiting.
