Mom accused of abduction to be extradited to U.K.

A British woman accused of abducting her child will be extradited back to the U.K. to face charges.

The Canadian government’s investigation on immigration fraud by Lebanese advanced greatly following its evacuation of thousands of Lebanese Canadians during the July 2006 war. Almost 13,000 Canadians were evacuated onboard marine ships from Lebanon at the height of the war.

BEIRUT: The Canadian government is due to revoke the citizenship of some Lebanese, who have obtained their citizenship in fraudulent ways and have intentionally misrepresented their residence in the country, a government official said Wednesday.

“The Government of Canada is in the process of revoking the citizenship of approximately 2,000 citizens including some Lebanese,” Jack Branswell, an officer at the Citizenship and Immigration Department of Canada told The Daily Star.

Instead, she found herself working at a factory and in the fast-food business. “I had seven years of social work experience and I sent out countless résumés but did not receive a single response,” recalled Ms. Raquel, 37.

A 19-year-old woman has been identified as the victim of a fatal shooting at SFU’s Surrey campus parkade early Wednesday morning.

Police say Maple Batalia, a student at SFU and a model and actress, was killed after shots rang out at the parkade at 13450 102 Ave. around 1:10 a.m. PT.

A 25-year-old man who was severely beaten Tuesday is no longer in the intensive care unit at Hôtel Dieu-Grace Hospital and is now speaking with investigators.

The man suffered a life-threatening head injury Tuesday afternoon after a group of teens beat him while he was walking his younger brother home from school.
