A major Canadian Muslim organization wants swift action against people who smashed windows at a mosque in Gatineau, Que., and tried to torch two cars in the parking lot.

There were no injuries.

The Canadian Council on American-Islamic Relations says Gatineau must investigate the attack as a hate crime.

Like many of the close to 1,700 international students at Vancouver Island University, Fatuma Hassan Ali and Noor Mohamed Maalim had to adapt to their new surroundings on Canada’s West Coast.
