Iris implants threaten vision

Using surgical implants to change eye colour can rob people of their vision, some Canadian eye specialists warn.

Cosmetic iris implants are not available in Canada or the U.S., but some Canadian doctors have had to treat patients who went outside North America for the procedure and developed serious problems.

Beatriz Murillo, 36, travelled from Toronto to a clinic in Panama, where she paid $8,000 to have a silicone disc placed on top of her irises to lighten the colour from brown to green.“I’m an artist and I’m afraid I’m never going to be able to paint again,” said Murillo, who had the procedure three years ago.

Last year, she started to feel pain, as if knives were stabbing the inside of her eyes. She also experienced elevated pressure in her eyes. Since then, she’s had two glaucoma surgeries and a cornea transplant that her body rejected, and she can now only see vague shapes and colours.

“Essentially, she’s legally blind now in both eyes, despite the fact that these artificial implants have been removed,” said Dr. Allen Slomovic, Murillo’s ophthalmologist, noting she can only count fingers 0.6 metres in front of her face, which is significantly worse than legal blindness.

“I think the lesson Beatriz has taught us is to be very cautious when dealing with cosmetic implants.”
Iris implants can irritate the delicate eye, said Dr. Ike Ahmed.

Dr. Ike Ahmed, an eye surgeon at Mississauga’s Credit Valley Hospital, has seen two similar cases of people needing medical and surgical treatment.

Iris implants can irritate the delicate eye, Ahmed noted.

(…)

“At this time, we have no real safe, surgical way” to change eye colour, Ahmed said. “If one is really interested in changing their eye colour, then it means colour contact lenses.”

At the New Iris clinic in Panama, Dr. Delary Kahn refused to talk about any specific patients, citing confidentiality.

“In the last six years, more than 600 procedures have been done including [on] many patients from Canada,” Kahn said in an email.

Murillo now wants to get a donor cornea transplant in hopes of stopping the pain and improving her sight.

As for the colour she sought with the implants, Murillo said the lighter version looked “fake.”

Sorry but blue/green eyes on a black person make them look like some kind of alien from another planet! This is a sad story. Appreciate how God made you.

    • cherry

That was very rude. You must be ignorant to the fact that colored people indeed have different color eyes at birth. You never seen a black person with real colored eyes? Smh

      • Spoken Word™

There was nothing rude about the comment at all. The individual stated an opinion. He/she is free to have an opinion. Whether you agree with it or not is your cross to bear.

With that said…. Your reference to black people, I’m assuming you mean black people since the story is about a black person and Chiku is referencing black people, as “colored” is a bit of an odd choice of words when one takes into account that it is often used as a term of derision.

        • Desya_beloved

What?? There are plenty of black people with natural green, hazel, etc (and rare cases blue) eyes, how would something natural look alien?? It WAS rude, an opinion can still be rude.

        • Keinonya Metamorphasis

There are several Black people, that have colored eyes…Chiku’s statement was ignorant.People and their narrow-minded comments…

This is called Congenital heterochromia iridum, and it effects people of all races. It is inherited as an autosomal dominate trait. It is entirely likely that someone else in her blood line had this, and that her children/grand children will also inherit it. I am glad you raise this point as there are many different genetic eye traits that can cause individuals of any race to have strangely colored (when compared to their peers) irises. I myself have central heterochromia, my irises change from green/hazel at the whites of my eyes to gold at the pupil. While all races have common traits among them, genetics is more than capable of throwing a curve ball. Which should indicate to any rational individual that we are indeed more alike than different.

      • TEESTONE

Colored??? What, is white not a color?? Your statement is as outdated as it is offensive! Point is, people need to be happy and appreciative of what they have… Because it can all go away in the blink of an eye!!

at Chiku, that is quite ignorant since there are Black people who are born with naturally blue and green eyes, I have two sisters that were born with blue eyes and now their eyes are hazel (naturally) and my own daughter was born with blue eyes until they turned green at 3 months old and brown when she got older

      • alani

Yes my grandson has light green eyes. That was an ignorant statement.

    • alani

My Grandson has light green eyes they have a blue hue to them. His eye color compliments his skin color. However, I do not agree with what this woman did for purely cosmetic reasons.

    • dummy

Black person with natural green eyes here ( I’ve never gotten anything but compliments)… fake contacts make people look like ailens.

Look at Michael Ealy, a very handsome BLACK man with blue eyes. I agree, appreciate how God made each of us and learn to embrace your unique beauty, but also keep your hurtful opinions to yourself is another one you should try to embrace.

    • sharongibson

My grandfather, African American, had hazel eyes, and I assure you he did not look like “some kind of alien from another planet!” American actor Michael Ealey, below, has light (blue) colored eyes as do many people of color. How? Well, it’s due to a factor called a recessive gene. But that is not the issue here. This foolish woman had surgery on her perfectly healthy eyes and now she’s legally blind.

  • Euonymus

Personally, I do not care. People are free to do whatever they desire with their bodies, BUT DO NOT ASK THE TAXPAYERS TO PAY FOR THEIR DISABILITIES!
I think that our health care should stipulate that body modifications (for “aesthetic” purposes) that go wrong are not covered.
    Period.

    • Reallytruly

Wow, this is all u can come up with, huh?

      thank you.

    • Ashley Alice

she wanted blue eyes to compliment her skin how does that mean she hates herself? white people do this all the time why is it self hate when black people want to do it? your comment is stupid!

      • http://www.facebook.com/arthurcla Arthur Clark

We probably will never know for certain what her true motivations were.

      • TommyZero

Ashley, that is an incredibly naive comment! Either you’ve never heard of how the ‘White Beauty Myth’ has been a long-time bane to the Black community, and has cause us to do many self-altering things of this nature (‘conking’ our hair, bleaching our skin, straightening our nose, etc.) … or you seriously believe that people naturally and normally surgically CHANGE THEIR EYE COLOR to ‘compliment their skin.’ Please, before you call someone else’s comment ‘stupid’, learn whereof you speak, because I’m pretty sure my jaw wasn’t the only one that dropped at your ‘explanation.’ Not hating, but my jaw dropped when I read YOUR comment!

        • Ashley Alice

no its not a “naive” comment! im aware of the self hate in our community but its really naive to think just because someone wants to change their eye color it means they hate being black! lol. i have white friends who change their eye color from blue to brown or whatever color i guess that means they hate being white lol. there are some of us who really just like fashion! i changed my hair color to red because i love the color red! i have no desire to follow some “white beauty Myth’ and while there are some people who do have an issue with their race which i have seen in ALL races like asians who want to be black (thats some new trend in Japan) or hispanics who are ashamed to be hispanic. im not naive at all and you don’t know me to make that type of judgement. but i have dealt with people like you who said things like this to me for the mere fact that i speak proper english! i guess black people can’t speak proper english, like blue eyes, blonde hair or any of that! its only for white people. seriously??? i could care less if someone elses “jaw dropped” while reading my comment. it really is silly to think that all black people who want to change their appearance wants to be white or is under white beauty influence. while this ladies choice was extreme, you don’t know her to say she was trying to be white! what the hell?? lol

          • Emmy-Lee Maseko

She hates being black because green eyes are not common among black people.

          • Anonymous

Idiots, idiots everywhere. I see comments about her wanting to be white, then I see comments of people getting mad and saying black people can have colored eyes too. Make up your minds. Funny thing is, the woman is Hispanic. Are green eyes also not common among Hispanics? You sound like a 12-year-old child.

          • SisterTruth

If she is Hispanic, which IS NOT a race by the way, it’s an ethnicity. She is clearly of African descent. From the picture, it’s also clear that she she has a good Caucasian friend with light blue or green eyes. With such an extreme operation, it’s not a jump to see that she admires that eye color and perhaps wanted to look like her Caucasian friends.

          • Anonymous

lol Honey, don’t try to be smart. If you scroll down and read my other comment I made before this, you’d see I’ve acknowledged that darker-skinned Hispanics are black by “race,” but that doesn’t make them African-American, as these people are trying to make it seem. Their cultures (and genes) are still generally very different. You’ve completely missed the point. Secondly, again, assumptions. Nothing is “clear.” So if I stood next to my white friend with some blonde weave, I wanna be white, huh? lmao I’m so done with people in this society. Some people like big boobs, some people like blue eyes. Ya’ll need to stop with this fake internet “black power” movement and take your asses to school. Some of you don’t even have power in your house, talking ’bout black power.

          • Michael

Regardless if she’s not African American, no one stated African American. What was stated is, “Blacks.” The insecurity of Blacks trying to look a particular way doesn’t stop here in the States. And if you want your points to stick, regarding the Hispanic points that you tried to make, Sister Truth look foolish on, try clarifying your point in what she was replying to in that particular post. It still reads, “She’s not Black. She’s Hispanic.” That doesn’t change the position of your argument. It just makes Sister Truth’s point stick because that’s the way that you’d posted it. Try saying, she’s Hispanic of African descent.

          • Skeptiko

There’s nothing like African American, America originates to Indians. They are all Americans whether black or white, more than that is weakness which I see in most blacks in America that causes them to segregate and hate white for no reason. It’s a bad trend that needs to change. I believe everybody has the right for her life to choose, GOD put this desire in our hearts, that’s why we are creative and innovative like HE is the CREATOR of varieties. I feel bad that the surgery didn’t go right, but I pray GOD that she gains her sight back, and I believe she will in Jesus’ name.

          • Yemi A

In the context of Sister Truth’s statement she never claimed this woman was African American simply of African descent which you Annoymous have simplified to “black”. With your “black power” movement and “take your asses” to school comements it is quite clear to me that Sister Truth wasn’t the one that missed the point. You did.

          • OneWingedButterfly

I can agree with you on the point that they aren’t African Americans.

          • Skeptiko

            Yea!

          • SisterTruth

“Honey”, I don’t need to “try” to be smart like you try. I am! Not only do my top college degrees say I am, but so does my common sense. Like I wrote before, the young lady is of AFRICAN descent. I NEVER wrote that she was African-American as the article CLEARLY states that she’s Canadian, talking about missing points. LOL! That’s called reading comprehension, dearie. I also NEVER wrote that the young lady wanted to BE white. I simply stated, “perhaps wanted to LOOK LIKE her Caucasian friends.” Your reading comprehension really is terrible. Perhaps, YOU should take your own advice and take your ass to school! If you stood next to your friend with some blonde weave, you may or may not want to be white. I don’t know. Do you? A weave is not a permanent change. Changing your eye color with surgery IS permanent. I also didn’t mention a thing about black power, what’s up with all these false assumptions? You have issues!

          • F

You are right SisterTruth. And another thing, negro Hispanics deny their African roots because there was never any civil rights movement in Spanish colonies or territories. Check out Blacks in Latin America series by professor Gates. Deep stuff.

          • OneWingedButterfly

I am a black Puerto Rican…uh “Hispanic” is not a race. Speaking Spanish doesn’t change a person’s race.

          • Dervid

“Hispanic” isn’t an ethnicity either, it’s a language designation only.

          • MokuwaYaesprit Kapo

blip blip blip, whitey alert. of course you would be against blacks sorting things out in a civil way.

          • Anonymous

lol Yeaaaa… no. I’m actually African by birth. This just shows how ignorant some people can be. Every negative thing is blamed on race.

          • Koinu

Question for you Anon. Were you born in Africa? If not you are not African by birth.

          • Guest

            … and anonymous by choice!

          • Juan

and you ignore that black latinos exist, who is more idiot?

          • Michael

Only an, “idiot” can not tell the difference on what one is stating/saying. When Blacks say, “Black people can have colored eyes too”, that means, Blacks too can have (natural. not fake) light eyes. I’m an example of this That flew way over your head. You also know that Hispanics come in different” colors” and “racial” backgrounds right? If she’s Hispanic, she’s is more of a Black Hispanic.Hispanic is not a race.

          • OneWingedButterfly

I am a black Puerto Rican. “Hispanic” is not a race. Speaking Spanish and having a Spanish surname doesn’t change a person’s race.

          • old_trojan_93

Looks like the real idiot is Anonymous. That she identifies herself as Hispanic is yet another act of self-hatred. She is obviously black (even if she speaks Spanish) but chooses to identify as the next closest thing to NOT being black, For many, it’s Hispanic.

          • Teeninchee

Plenty green-eyed people in my family. So much so, it IS common! She should have done contacts.

You are probably the most insightful person on here. The fact that a bunch of internet followers don’t understand this means you’re doing something right. Everything’s a racial controversy online.

          • Guest

No you both are actually the most uneducated and culturally ignorant people on this post. Hispanic is not a color nor is it considered a race. There are black Hispanics and White Hispanics. Black Hispanics have experienced the psychological effects of racism just as Blacks throughout the diaspora. To not understand that this is a result of self hate and the attempt to achieve the image of beauty she’s been force fed via media and society is, in fact, naïve. Also, comparing what white people do vs black people is ignorant as well. Our cultural, historical, and present reality are diametrically different and worlds apart. White have never had self esteem issues and have never had to experience the hateful atmosphere of racism and oppression. Neither have whites had to look in every magazine, commercial, movie, product packaging, etc. and see images of beauty that looking nothing like them. Whites have not been subjected to an education system that has taught them they were nothing more than someone’s slave as if they had no history prior which teaching that another race created everything of significance. I would dare to say comments like this typically come from ignorantly arrogant whites who see the world only from a Eurocentric perspective and miseducated blacks who have no understanding of our historically reality and the psychological damage racism has done collectively to Black people throughout the world. Most Black people can instantly identify the psychosis caused by racism in which this young lady suffered. Green eyes are a Eurocentric phenotype and African people of any nationality (i.e. Hispanic is a nationality not race) desiring such is displaying self hate!

          • Chuckaluck

Judging by your name and photo, I’m going to say I’m not surprised by your comment. I’m sure they’re both aware that Hispanic is not a race or color. You just can’t read, clearly. Last I checked, eye color was a human trait just like
hair color or dimples, yet people dye their hair and pierce their cheeks. What about the women losing limbs because of butt injections? It’s just another idea of beauty, not a race thing. Her actions were extreme due to her own obsession with beauty. This is a universal issue that’s been prominent since the beginning of time. Ever thought maybe she spotted a dark person with light eyes and thought it looked beautiful? Hell, even some white people find that beautiful
and wish they could have those traits. It’s not a race thing. If it was, why not bleach her skin as well? Forget about slavery days and oppression for a sec and think about that very carefully before replying. While some things said on this forum may be true, this particular situation is being blown way out of proportion when it could be as simple as plain female vanity.

          • ?

disagree. in the black community, it is a “race thing” whether consciously or more likely…subconsciously…….that is why u see so many black women with blond weaves and colored contacts and why in the african community (not even speaking on african-americans) skin bleach is the hottest thing since fufu. disregard it if u like and continue to enjoy to bubble your living in. must be nice;)

          • Toni Gerlardi

There are safer American made eye color change implants with grooves on the implant to allow the pressure not to increase.

          • ?

if it is not a culture or a race…. ( which you are correct in saying) then what, exactly are you referring to when you say “black hispanics” as if it is either? just wondering

          • Iam Black

REALLY? WHITES NEVER HAD TO EXPERIENCE THE HATEFUL ATMOSPHERE OF RACISM AND OPPRESSION? OR SELF ESTEEM ISSUES. I AM A WHITE AMERICAN MALE. AND LET ME TELL YOU, IT SUCKS BEING A WHITE AMERICAN MALE BECAUSE OF ALL THE DISCRIMINATION I GET FROM BLACK OR LATINO PEOPLE. BACK IN THE DAY, MY KIND (ITALIANS) WERE HARSHLY DISCRIMINATED AGAINST, AND WE WERE THROWN INTO OVENS AND BURNED ALIVE.

          • Guest

This is the internet. Everyone feels they’re entitled to something and they don’t think about the feelings of others. Apparently white people don’t have feelings because black people are oppressed. I’m not sure when this imaginary racial war will end, but it’s best to ignore people like that.

          • Teeninchee

People, people, people!!! Read American History…enjoy the knowledge that EVERYBODY ‘black’, ‘white’, “INDIAN” was subjected to slavery. EVERYBODY….especially if you were poor. So, low self esteem, ‘racism’ discrimination’ is not the exclusive property of any one group.

When we wake up and realize that, we might make headway.

Italian? Portuguese, Irish, Greek…anything that was not BRITISH-connected was shoved down the “as good as” ladder. Which is sad that as each group climbs the ladder of ‘social acceptability”–the descendants don’t know about those “GOOD OL’ DAYS”….

Get it together, people. Love yourself and love your neighbors. WE are people. Treat each other kindly as you pass. The Africans, Welsh, French, and native ‘Americans” COMBINED in this woman crave equality within her! — do you understand that?

            Tom, here’s a hug…no discrimination from this sector. <3

          • Michael

You make a point. BUT, most of that issue came from the Irish over the decades in this country. Italians were lynched in the southern States like Black men during those same years.

          • ?

it sucks being a white american male??? in AMERICA??????? you gotta be kidding me. YOUR discriminated against??? poor you.

          • Whitey b

you are white dumbass. ur kind were burned for 4 years by whites that was interracial. Then we all enslaved blacks for 300 yrs lol no comparison

          • Michael

I agree with you to a degree. But to state that whites have never had esteem issues nor deal with looking in magazines that look nothing like them is generalizing. Smh. What do you call those white girls that eat and throw up their food? You don’t think that there is a large number of white girls dyeing their hair to get that ultimate white European look? While the insecurities is not as bad as in people of color in many areas, there are areas where it rivals or is just as bad. And it’s not just Blacks. Other people of color have these issues too. Asian women, “deslant” their eyes to get that as they say, “Americanized” look. Mexican men and women that want to be more Spaniard and less Indian. As they say, “You act so Indian” aka, “You’re so ghetto. While I agree with many of your points as well as others, I get so sick of Blacks, making it just a Black thing and failing to acknowledge the other people of color that go or deal with this. This issue is very big in the Latino, Asian and like communities. Period.

          • Guest

            Michael,
when did I say it was only black people affected by white supremacy? However,
which of those races were enslaved for 300 years and still experience hate to
this day on the level of Blacks? Native Americans were murdered but
did America not give them reparations in the form of tax free
reservations and businesses? Are white people really this culturally
ignorant? Your comparing weight issues that whites experience which are
controllable to a phenotypical traits that have been demonized and used as a
tool of oppression and slavery? Wow! And therein lies the problem with
combating racism in America, the denial factor. Whites always attempt to
minimize and marginalize the physical and social damaged created by racism and
oppression. “Oh, it wasn’t that bad, whites have issues too”. B.S. is
what you’re speaking as well as it being the usual deflection tactics. Whites
look for every reason they can find other than something being tied to race, in
any racially controversial issue. You rarely see white people admit to
something being about race, I personally never see it. Racism exists but no
white people are racist. Lmao! Unbelievable how people who’ve never had to
experience racism seem to be so efficient as identifying it, more so than the
black people. According to whites, black people are apparently delusional 99%
of the time when we say something is race related because whites never fail to
deny it. I’ve asked white people how do they identify racism amongst other
whites other than the obvious N-word being used. What nuances do you look for
determine whether someone’s racist since you guys’ race senses are so keen? Additionally,
you guys always bring up the plight of other races when black people speak
about the ills of racism. Why? What is that? Do you think it somehow mitigates
our (black people) circumstances because whites have oppressed other races as
well? This is comical I mean really. Lol The plight of other races is not my
concern, they are doing fine and in fact many of them have picked up the torch
of white supremacy and become hateful against blacks as well. But back to the
subject as hand, my earlier comment spoke to the psychological damage created
by systemic and social racism which drove this girl to mutilate her eyes. You
people with the “I know black people with this color or that color eyes”
are ridiculous as well. Of course you do, miscegenation created this, for the
most part but let’s see how many indigenous Africans you find with green
or blue eyes. It’s an anomaly, and you will be hard press to find this trait so
giving me individual cases does not disprove that green or
blue eyes are not common amongst Black people. Lastly, to the
guy who I assume to be Jewish, please go somewhere with the Jewish Holocaust
sob story. The Holocaust was centralized to Germany and not a worldwide
oppression, it lasted all of 4-6 years and most importantly, your white! Judaism is a
religion, not a race though Jews attempt to portray it as one. On top of that,
nbody knows you’re Jewish unless you tell them, hence the reason why many
Jewish people changed their names especially in Hollywood and other business
sectors. The Jewish plight beyond the Holocaust is neither tragic nor horrible
here in America especially nor is it worldwide. It surely does not compare the
300 year history of slavery, rape, & murder, another 100 years of racism,
murder and oppression, and the 10’s of millions that died during trek to the
slave dungeons and the middle passage. The African holocaust or Maafa has been
the most lied about and distorted history by disingenuous Euro historians as
well as our history prior to slavery. Cry me a river about the Jewish plight as
I look at every major industry run by Jews. Hollywood, T.V., Radio, Banking,
Medical, Law, Government, you name it and Jews run it or have a strong arm in
it. So gtfoh with the Italian/Jew sob story, your white and that makes all the
difference in the world. We can’t disguise who we are and there has never been
laws specifically aimed at oppressing you here and your people were not
attacked and murdered en masse every time they attempted to build a strong
community such as Black Walls Street. Rosewood, and the list goes on. Your
people did not deal with Jim Crow, Black Codes, Civil Rights, Housing, Job,
& Banking discrimination along with every socially challenge you can name. Your
appearance has not been constantly attacked and demonized in every media
source. Images of beauty have all been according to white ideology. The problem
is most of you have never really read or learned anything about anyone but
yourselves, definitely not African history or the real extent of slavery. The
extent of your knowledge lies with movies you’ve see, hearsay, or the blurbs in
school history books which are a joke. So save that BS for someone who’s buying

Do you not realize that you are being racist yourself by making comments about how “whites” think and feel? If you want discrimination to truly fade out of our culture than you need to look inside yourself and stop harboring it.

Actually weight can be affected by genetics, biological sex and in North America is a huge class indicator because unprocessed food is so expensive. I would encourage everyone to check out this body positive site: http://www.haescommunity.org/

Women have been enslaved for more than 10 000 yrs possibly throughout all the existance of our species. All forms of oppression and discrimination are based off of global femicide. Male violence is the root of all oppression.

“Native Americans were murdered but did America not give
them reparations in the form of tax free reservations and
businesses?”……. Are kidding me? Have you ever been to Pine Ridge? No of course you haven’t. Millions of Indians were slaughtered when the white man came here. MILLIONS! They live on small parcels of land in extreme poverty. Not ghetto poverty where they have a nice roof over their heads and food in their stomachs. They live in shacks, sometimes 20 to a shack. Most of the shacks don’t have running water, electricity, or other basic necessities. You want to see poverty, REAL poverty, go to Pine Ridge or any other reservation and then tell me how bad black people have had it. I am so sick of (some) black people whining about how hard they have it. Yeah, your ancestors where slaves. Boo Hoo! Mine where gassed in ovens and put into deplorable conditions because Hitler was an asshole. My ancestors have been slaves in the past as well. Hell, every single race hates my race because of what? Everyone thinks that Jew have some secret plot to take over the world and that we have most of the money. (I am poor by the way) Get over it already! The only thing holding you down is you. How many people died in the 50′s & 60′s so that you could sit around whining that you are being held down. Get your ass out there and make a difference. Show other races that you are smart, capable, and can contribute to society. Do you know why some people are racist against blacks? It’s because either they don’t know anybody black, or they have only encountered the pant sagging, gold tooth having, Ebonics talking idiot. (No way in hell can those things be justified as being part of the African culture that you pay homage to). Show them differently. Oh yeah, being racist against whites….. is still being racist. That makes you no better than the white supremacist.

          • Iam Black

I never discounted the Native American experience in reference to the murder and torture they experience via European savagery. You missed my point, the point is the fact that America has given the Native reparation in the form of grants, loans, and tax free status! What don’t you get about that? It’s greedy and selfish chiefs and unethical Native leaders who now hoard all the money and business profits without sharing it. They(natives) live in the conditions of squalor because they choose to live out there or else they could be enjoying the fine living of the ghettos, also, as you attempt the characterize it. To address the rest of your racist white man comments, Jews were never enslaved. That’s pure myth and biblical b.s. There was no so called Jews ever in Africa in Ancient times, sure as hell didn’t build any pyramids and the Moses biblical story is nothing more than myth/allegory. There’s no historical proof of any of that BS. So stop the my people were enslave rhetoric because its a lie! Secondly, Mr. Caucasian Jew, you are white. Your people are from Europe and Judaism is nothing more than a religion concocted by you. Sell someone else the Semitic BS. You, Jews, were just as much involved in the savagery of African slavery as any other European. You are a racist people and Israel is an extremely racist country! But just like any other white man, you’re allergic to truth and constantly look to deflect the topic/point. Black people don’t think or claim that we are superior based on our melanin content nor have we killed, murdered, raped, pillaged, and enslaved based on such a ridiculous notion unlike whites. It is you and your people who carry this psychosis known as racism. It is you who believe your lack of skin melanin somehow equals superiority which in actuality is nothing more than a mutation/adaption to your ancestors cold/cave man environment in the caucus mountains of Europe. Btw, melanin produced by the pineal glands happens to one of the most important chemicals in the body. Back to my point, Blacks have had not nor do we now have the power to oppress whites and restrict them socially or economically. This is the main component of racism, pointing out historical facts is not racism but somehow stating history equates to racism in the arrogant minds of whites. It never fails, state anything historical about your treachery and you claim racism which is Pee Wee Herman I know you are but what am I logic at best. How bout you go learn the definition of racist because I’ve not seen a black racist yet. To anyone saying whites know what oppression and racism is because of social issues with their weight or eye color is a laughable assertion at best. Let me know when you find a government backed law against white folks with brown eyes. Let me know when they have experience Jim Crow, Black codes, job, housing, and banking discrimination like laws. Let me know when they are refused service at stores and restaurants. Let me know when they are stop by police for driving white fat or brutalized for having different color eyes. Let me know when they get harsher sentences for the same crime as other whites who don’t have brown eyes. Let me know at what point were they hung and enslaved for having different color eyes. Wow! White man logic never ceases to amaze me. Same BS everytime! Show other races that we are smart, really? Read some real history instead of the BS European love story you call a history book and you’ll see who created philosophy, math, science, and civilization. These were created before anyone knew Europe existed. Europe had no great learning institution idiot, if so then name one prior to 600 BCE so we can hear about where all these so called great philosophers were educated. The library of Alexandria was stolen and every piece of information was already in Egypt (i.e Africa). You’re speaking to the wrong man, Mr. Ashkanazi. I’m not fooled by the Jewish myth BS. You’re white and yes, your people do run every major industry and it’s has nothing to do with you being smarter, nothing! Was it a conspiracy, who knows for sure but you sure as hell ain’t got nothing to cry about. How’s that for ebonics???

          • Lisa

Its funny cuz those so called “Native Americans” WERE BLACK. Read your history. The MOORS were the first settlers of America (they were already there thousands of years before the Native (mongol) Americans) not the Native “Mongol’ Indians that migrated from Mongolia. Africans were already in the Americas way before slavery.

“Whites have never had self esteem issues and have never had to experience the hateful atmosphere of racism and oppression.” That is not true. Women are a globally oppressed class targeted for sexual violence regardless of their skin colour. I agree there is a lack of representation of people of colour and it is insulting but I cannot see any woman relating to many celebs looks because they are so photoshopped out of reality. Although ugly or normal looking men are common in the media. Saying whites do not experience oppression reduces them to one feature. People are oppressed also because of biological sex, sexual orientation, social class, political views and disabilities etc. The white centric beauty ideals imposed on black women for capitalist misogynist reasons are deplorable but white women tan which can give them skin cancer and aging. There is great commonality between the harsh gender roles imposed on females I believe but racial overtones are not to be ignored.

Please stop talking. Wanting to change your eye color so bad that you would go under surgery is at minimum a form of self dislike that could be considered self hate. What if we were not just talking about eyes? What if she later wanted to change her skin color? Would that be enough to validate the self hate claim or would that be considered a normal fashion decision as well.

          • eb

I find it hilarious that you would say “you dont know me to make that type of judgement” yet you called someone elses comment stupid. Lol

Your sarcasm was duly noted, Ashley – as well as your grammar and your “English” You might also want to tone down your defensiveness a notch or two. Tommy Zero expressed himself very well. He’s just “telling it like it is”.

            Period after ‘English’. IJS

          • Kofi

when you change parts of yourself artificially, that is self hate. using your white “friends” as an example is just dumb. they are notorious for hating themselves. how do you think that foolishness got projected on us and in this article, this dumbass heifer?

          • Michael

Ashley your point would be valid, but you failed on context 101. This is not your typical, changing eye contacts color. This is someone that is so foolish, that she decided to go out of the country to do something that was/is very dangerous which lead to the lost of her vision. So yes, in this particular case, this is an insecurity about her looks and racial background. You don’t have to know her to use some common sense.

You weren’t born with blonde hair were you? You’re not happy with the way you are so you think changing your outward appearance would probably make you feel better about yourself. I’ve seen this so many times with people. Whether white or black. The real change you need is inward bit outward. Your actions simply show you are not content other the way you look and were born.

Let me get in a comment about the so called “proper” English mention. Who is to say one version of English is more “proper” than the other? It’s naive to think that one group’s version of a language is more “proper” than another. Just be you and stop worrying about who is judging you.

          • me0on0utube .

I have to agree with Ashley. A woman doesn’t hate their blackness because they wear contacts or a weave. SMH. And it doesn’t mean they don’t know anything about black history or that they are queens.

        • Guest

I would bet Ashley wouldn’t change HER white skin for black…why would she want to do that? Not to complement her eyes! Whites have all the doors open already. This unfortunate person was just looking for acceptance (although not very logical thinking). Tommy Zero, there are so many Ashleys around…I don’t know if they’re racists, ignorant or both. Remember, if you are not Black, don’t speak for someone who is! My jaw also dropped Tommy Zero..Touche!

Another blame whitey comment…..92% of the world’s population are darked skinned. Oh, BTW whitey didn’t drag you here….the Jew did. Most slave owners were Jewish….whitey could hardly afford slaves….we were selling ourselves as indentured servants to get here.

        Do not
forget black history, It is easy for the young generation in the aftermath to focus
on design, fashion and color without any feeling what their handling can have
an effect on the future of culture and perception. The world believes until today
Black is bad! Black is misery! White is good, beautiful and enlightenment! Who
created this standards of belief? When and Why?

        It is good
some lessons are being learnt. Changing what nature has given us has its dear
price. It is sad it has to go so far, when the answer is simple. Love your

it looks ridiculous!!!! NOT complementing at all.

      • Indicat

she hated her eyes. her eyes were part of her therefore she hates herself. It’s self hate if anybody hate themself, not just black people, there’s an island full of black people with blonde hair and blue eyes (melanesia), but I don’t even want to get into that right now. Plus, she’s not even black, she’s hispanic…. It’s still self hate to put yourself in harms way to alter yourself.

      • Yemi A

Ashley your comment is either ignorant of history or disregards history and is incredibly naive.

      • Guest

Sorry Ashley I’m a white boy and I know better than that!! TommyZero has it pegged, you really need to look around you first before you diss someones comment like that. I’ve see bad results from hair straightening but this is the worse case of ‘wannabe’ surgery I’ve ever seen.

      • unixfool

White people doing it (all the time) doesn’t make it right, either.

People are treating their bodies like it’s a Mr. Potato-head, swapping this and that, then wish they hadn’t after running into complications. Now she’s looking for a cornea implant to fix her dumb mistake (and possibly taking a good functional cornea from someone that has a naturally occurring cornea issue).

I agree with Brandon. Up until 20 or so years ago, blacks used to make fun of the European culture…now we (as a people) are adopting everything we used to laugh at. White people laugh when watching Sir Mix Alot’s Baby Got Back video but if you listen to the lyrics, there’s a back-theme – he’s talking about European culture and how he dislikes it.

The thing that really got me was that after she began to have issues, she says, “I’m an artist and I’m afraid I’m never going to be able to paint again.” WTF…you didn’t think about that BEFORE they cut into your eye? You don’t do something like that to your “money maker”.

    • Teeninchee

Maybe she just wanted to be a green-eyed queen! My personal queenliness loves blond hair, red hair, brown and black hair. Rather than put my hair through those changes, though…we do the wig thing!!! Green eyes run in the family–but contacts give those who want to be creative that option.

I love the looks that come from ALL of my ancestors. But then, it may be the war of the ethnicities from which I was created! I LOVE ME!!! Just like to look externally different sometimes. Idon’t wear the same clothes every day–so I can change something else if I want to. SURGICAL CHANGE..??? not so much.. I

The fact that she has to go outside the U.S.A or Canada to do this because the doctors here will not do this type of surgery due to the fact that At this time, they have no real safe, surgical way” to change eye colour should have been her first clue, When will women learn that some extremes are not worth the risk for beauty! They do make colored contacts, which is a more safer alternative.

  • moodyjudi

Stupid girl. You should have been happy with what God gave you. Such a shame.

    • Just nobody

We all love hearing self righteous name calling combined with utterances of ‘god’. You are a prime example of why god truly does not exist.

      • IndigoVoice82

Now Justnobody, you are being just as narrow minded as you suggest moodyjudi was. Which I agree, I cringe when I see someone say someone else is stupid without knowing the other person personally. One person’s remark (even a million of them) is NO evidence that God does not exist. In fact, it suggests that the religious texts were correct in saying that we were all given freewill to do, say, and act as we choose. God did not create little robots or servants to do exactly as God wanted….LIFE is the gift. It is how we use it, that shows the true appreciation for our own lives and all of God’s creations.

Why don’t you atheists understand that God is Law, and the great equalizer in the afterlife…at the END of one’s life on earth and not now while the lessons are still being learned here on earth…???

Read a book. Open your mind. Educate yourself on the different religions before you judge others.

You are truly a light for others, Sally :)

I can easily remove my extensions but she’ll probably never be the same because of her own SELF-HATE!

  • Tree

I know many AA that use colored contacts to change the color of their eyes for various reasons. I have to admit I’m always able to tell when they are not natural and in fact contacts because most do not look totally natural, I’m sorry. But I’ve always chalked it up to ‘to each his own’ and figured they used their eyes as accessories or enhancements like hair dye or make up or jewelry. But to permanently fool around with an organ as delicate as the human eyeball……..uhh, I can’t fathom doing that. Don’t like your eyes, get colored contacts and switch up as often as you like but don’t fool with the perfect instruments God gave you for vanity.

  • Ashley Alice

i don’t understand why people are calling her stupid or self hating. whats wrong with people wanting to have a different look? its no different than getting implants, relaxers, piercings, hair color, etc. lol they’re all super risky! all can lead to infection or sever cases like permanent damage or even death!and they all change your appearance so what the hell is the difference?? i guess its only stupid or self hating when black people do it. god forbid if we want to change our hair color or eye color than its trying to be white! and if you speak proper English along with it than your definitely trying to be white! why can’t she just be a black girl who likes the color blue on her? why a black girl who is self hating and wants to be white? other races are always going to look down us because we look down on us and that ladies and gentlemen is sad…

    • Baakus

You can’t ignore the racial aspect of all this. And it’s not just black people. Indians poison their skin to look paler. Asians cut up their eyes. Even white people try to look more white by dyeing their hair blonde.

  • Doris

There are many black people with different color eyes and various skin tones. We should be proud of what we are. I look at myself, my children and say God is good. I love his handiwork. The point of all this is that this young woman was not happy with what her eyes were and now she is blind. Unlike a bad hair cut or perm or gaining or losing weight, she can not change the damage she has done to herself. That is a hard lesson to learn. God bless her.

  • Anonymous

Um… her last name is Murillo and she went to Panama. She’s most likely Hispanic. Although colored Hispanics are technically black, I’m disappointed this turned into another black/white thing. There’s something every race tries to change about themselves, including whites and Asians. It’s plain human vanity.

    • Juan

“Although colored Hispanics are technically black”……ohhh wow, do you know something about afro-latinos?, I’m black colombian, yes, Colombian of black african descent, THERE ARE BLACKS IN LATINAMERICA, and this girl looks black, not just “dark skinned hispanic”

Some Aborigines (indigenous people of Australia…to the unknowing are a race of people who were in Australia BEFORE White men) are born with blue eyes, so the Creators plan is something no one here understands. I wish her nothing but success in reversing this tragic mistake, and would remind all of you that seeking to obtain medical procedures in third world countries has long been discouraged as unsafe, unhealthy, and carries deadly health risk.

  • blkbeauty

Moral of the story BE HAPPY WITH WHAT U GOT

  • blkbeauty

Ok im lost reading the comments where in the story does it say what COLOR this woman is y is everything about race

    • unixfool

People are making assumptions because of her skin color. Gotta remember that she has a Hispanic last name, so she’s more than likely Hispanic with African ancestry (as is most of Latin America…this is also more than likely why she went to Panama, but that’s also an assumption).

You’d understand why this turned into a race-oriented discussion if you were Black. The lesson in this is that she should’ve left her eyes their naturual color…maybe she wouldn’t be blind then. Although green (and blue and hazel) is a natural color for Blacks, it is not as prevalent an eye color as it is in the White population. While the color is natural, she wasn’t born with it, which makes her customization attempt un-natural. The fact that she did this even when her eyes are literally her money-maker (she’s an artist by profession) tells me that her decision to do this was either tied to hating her looks (to an unnatural point) or that she thought this was be a trivial procedure…either reason is bad, but the former reason could be tied to her wanting to have European-like features. That in itself isn’t bad, but if you’re Black, that could have negative impact with the Black population. White people always visit tanning booths, get collagen injections and things like that, to try to have that ethnic look…they think it’s OK to do this (IMO, it isn’t, but I’m not White…I’ll let a White person offer their opinions on this). I’m assuming that Blacks look unfavorably when Black women do that…they view it as an attempt to escape Black heritage.

Even using colored contacts has risk. Better to leave such things alone.

  • RumpleForeskin

she is a profound dumbass. im sure doctors told her the risks involved. but noooo she wanna be a white girl… well now d whole world is just one color… dumbass

  • V12_BITURBO

Yeah I don’t know…something’s making my bullshit-o-meter go nuts. I just can’t conceive how someone can be so dumb. There’s a much cheaper, much safer alternative. It begins with a “c” and ends with an “s”.

  • Wanda Griffin

This is sad to go from being unhappy with your natural born eye color. To being unhappy because you can never to see color again. Its harsh, and sometimes I wonder how God did not look at his children and see how small and petty ” prejudice” would make us
. The differences that God created for his pleasure, used for racist hate groups and self loafing. My prayers are with her, she did not make this world she was simply trying to live in it.

We should value and appreciate what we have. There is a purpose behind our racial background at any point in time. The physical body is a garment ….a house from which we can manifest on Earth. • http://www.facebook.com/wombdoomer Womb Doomer

    I’d still hit it.

  • Evan Henderson

    Vanity is a monster.

  • Jaleel King

Flat out this was such a stupid and irresponsible thing to do no matter what her “ETHNIC” background is. This woman, as an artist, should know and be fully aware of how important her sight is to her art. As a photographer, I wish I would go ahead do something like this with out understanding fully that something like this can happen. Contacts would’ve done the same damn thing and cost her less money. Now her stupid $8,000 eye modification is cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to tax payers and more importantly taking away transplants from others who suffer from natural ailments. THAT’S the issue. Who cares why she did it, it was her choice and now this is the lesson she, and others before, clearly are learning when comes to cosmetic surgery to such an important sense.

  • Suezq

Didnt she research and realize the risks involved? Totally stupid in my IMHO and artist that can no longer see isn’t much of an artist, All because of her eye color?? I mean, okay, if she doesn’t like something about herself she has every right to change whatever it is, but if it is something that could potentially damage her life as a result, then learn to appreciate what you have… there is a reason this surgery is NOT performed in the US and Canada.. obviously it is DANGEROUS and distracts from quality of life in the long run… She is a beautiful woman regardless of her eye color, but may never again be able to look into a mirror and see that.

  • Stewbert

And green contacts would have been cheaper too, I am sure.

  • Teeninchee

People, people, people!!! Read American History…enjoy the knowledge
that EVERYBODY ‘black’, ‘white’, “INDIAN” was subjected to slavery.
EVERYBODY….especially if you were poor. So, low self esteem, ‘racism’
discrimination’ is not the exclusive property of any one group.

When we wake up and realize that, we might make headway.

    Italian?
Portuguese, Irish, Greek…anything that was not BRITISH-connected was
shoved down the “as good as” ladder. Which is sad that as each group
climbs the ladder of ‘social acceptability”–the descendants don’t know
    about those “GOOD OL’ DAYS”….

    Get it together, people. Love
yourself and love your neighbors. WE are people. Treat each other
kindly as you pass. The Africans, Welsh, French, and native ‘Americans”
COMBINED in this woman crave equality within her! — do you understand
    that?

Most posters here don’t know this woman. It is sad that she chose a permanent change, rather than a contact lens. Perhaps she didn’t research enough to know people were having problems with that surgery. Messing with vision and hearing–taking chances like that…ALWAYS a no-no IMHO.

I hope someone can help her fix it.

    • unixfool

I agree, but only to a point. Of everyone making comments…EVERYONE…none have suffered personally under slavery. Their parents didn’t. Their grandparents didn’t. Maybe their great-grandparents did (if so, that person it pretty damned old). In that sense, your comments don’t make much sense.

Also, maybe you should differentiate between slavery and being of the unpopular population (Italian, Portuguese, Irish, Greek). Back then, skin color had power. Even though you weren’t British, you still weren’t black. I don’t remember hearing of non-African but European nationalities being sold on the slave blocks. As a non-African but European person, you might not have been liked by the British, but you were still more elevated than an African.

what an idiot. what about some fishy procedure that isnt done in usa or canada sounds safe to you? jesus, theres a reason they dont do these surgeries. plus, doesnt she have half a brian to know the doctors performing these surgeries are probably far from the top in their field. this is on top of the fact that its stupid to change eye color, and colored contacts are for fools, people who wear them just look like they have confidence issues.

All these arguments about this woman wanting to change her eye color because of “self hate” or some other b.s. Racially biased fueled undertone. How about the simple fact that we live in a society where money can get you whatever you want. I’m the 90′s it was phen phen and plastic surgery and if you dieted you hated yourself. If she truly. Hates her ethnicity (whatever it may be) that is none of anyone’s business. If she has a mental issue that is everyone’s business, but not to criticize.

People have been practicing body modification since the dawn of our civilization, and THAT alone transcends nationality, black, white or Mongol. Everyone needs to get over the racial concept because we are all modern human that are still primitively fueled at times. Some people just want to be different, get over it. • Asiatic

Very few Blacks that change their appearance would admit it was because of self-hatred…the ignorance of self-hatred is so ingrained into our psyche it is absurd to even question it. Self-hatred is supported by centuries of systematic denial of what is or is not acceptable in a particular culture….and nowhere on the planet that the colonizer (read: whites) have been does that culture’s original standards of beauty remain. There is no debate on what self-hatred, self-denial, the lack of racial/cultural identity, the desire to be “beautiful” by the dominate culture’s standards, looks like. Even many post-colonial Africans value an American, Canadian, or European Education over their own homeland…even though Africa is the original home to most of the world’s religions, arts, sciences, philosophies….Yes people, we’ve been train like Pavlov’s Dogs to sub-consciously respond in way that deny’s our very essence for the sake of acceptance in the dominate society. #nodebate

and yet… we buy into the narrow standards of beauty. We believe Ms. America should be blond haired and blue -eyed…. cause that’s what a “REAL American” looks like. We judge, exclude and scorn people for not fitting a narrow sliver of “Acceptable” looks. We all spend money to look and smell like advertising tells us to do.

  • Melissa

Was the price of being vain really worth it? IMHO she doesn’t deserve a transplant considering she did this to herself. There are TONS of people in this world needing/wanting a transplant because they were born with pain/blindness or some other ailment to their eyes. This world and it’s people are getting more and more hopeless.

  • oldsoldier59

Sad. First that she wasn’t happy with what God gave her, second, that the incompetent Dr. who performed the surgery was too stupid or negligent or both, to tell her that silicone doesn’t support the optic nerve tissues and fibers necessary for the eyes to function naturally. The Dr. needs their license revoked, and she needs to pray to God for forgiveness and restoration of her sight.

I wonder why ppl are making this about her not wanting to be black or wanting to be white or whatever…….the main point is you are suppose to love yourself they way you were born and the lesson is simply that there can always be consequences when you try to permanently change the way the creater intended you to be. People should look at this as a perfect example as to why we should never want to change ourselves un naturally, instead of using this story to hate an criticise ppl you hv probably never met…………peace and love to everyone :)

Skin bleaching, color transplants, nose and btt reductions.. cheek construction. The only two classe sof people who are killnig themselves to be lighter are Africans in America and other places on the African continent and the darker shades of people from India. Why is this? • Mia Carla

yes your paranoia. No one color or ethnicity has more evil or less. We are all one race the human race. Your paranoia is very clear in your rantings. You are the only one forcing your views. We live on one globe… we cant build fences to keep one color or eye size pure. There is no such thing. It was never meant to be. So yes You are just as guilty of it as more so because you carry that darkness in your heart. Your own words are your plague onto humanity. So you can bet anything but you will never know me or my history cause all you see is color.. you have no idea and thats the best part of your ignorance.. its just their in everything. There is no going back because you put it on the internet for all to see

        • Ілар Хоругин

we are just smarter than you ,sorry. If not white arians that came to india 7-5 thousands years ago and created vedas and classes in india and then mixed with your race you probably still be like monkeys. It is not like we better, we just got more lucky from gene perspective.

        • Ілар Хоругин

and yes, for me white race is most beautiful too

    Dumb Ass….

  • seinna

she doesn’t deserve cornea transplants. that should be reserved for those who didn’t voluntarily opt out of perfectly good eyes.

  • Kimiko Austin

I am sorry for her. She made a costly error and is now paying for it with the loss of her sight. She has my compassion but it seems that many black people here only have scorn to offer. Please stop talking about God when you are not saying anything Godly

    • Stan Waffle Wally Pitts

My issue with her, she gave away perfectly good corneas, and when it didn’t work she had a transplant that didn’t work. Fine, have a Transplant, but not until patients with True Eye Disease have theirs!

      • Kimiko Austin

If she is p aying for her own surgeries then why are you so bitter? You are taking this personally when you have NO right to. She has done nothing that will effect your life. If anything what she has done has destroyed her life as she once knew it. If you don’t have it within you to have compassion for that then you are a pathetic, miserable, human being indeed. May you receive as much compassion in your life as you are willing to give.Which won;t be enough to fill a thimble from what I am reading.

        • MartinNYID

paying for it doesn’t create new worthy donors for people who need them. Let’s just start with ‘Panama’ shall we?

  • Chrissy

I just think it’s very sad that no matter what her motives she chose to opt for a risky surgery that cost her sight and ability to paint.

  • rosa

are you Caucasian looking enough now???? dumb ass?

  • Nii Molai

Look at the end of the day, she done it and will have to live with the consequences.

Your eyes, if brown, have a certain level of melanin, which is important for absorbing UV rays from the sun. If you choose to change the colour of your eyes permanently to a colour that provides less UV protection than what your eyes were originally used to from birth; trouble will follow.

By the way, I don’t know of anyone who’d wear both green and brown colours or blue and brown colour clothing and say they compliment each other. They don’t go together.

  • old_trojan_93

Send her a tweet and let her know how you feel.

    • killabeezle

she wont be able to read it, pow!

  • Stan Waffle Wally Pitts

My problem is, why did they give her new precious corneas, when she willingly gave her perfectly good ones away? Let her have her operation. Right after Everyone else who has REAL EYE DISEASE!! She deserves what she got, I’m Sawry!

  • SMH

Reading all the comments here about black people wanting to be white and stuff. The only thing i’ve got to say about this is that it’s not about race, it’s about seeking ”perfection” .. Society pressure .. tv .. hollywood .. fashion .. money .. attention seeking .. pop music .. photoshopped pictures with the devil’s watermark .. the devil is screwing with your self esteem .. he’s not telling you you’re not pretty .. but he sure makes you think you would be much more worthy of love if you’d shine like a diamond .. because everybody’s attention is going thowards the fuckin diamond .. Poor girl .. not because she lost her vision .. but because she’s born in the most superficial era of all times and it led her there .. people are just sad

  • john vella

She can’t be African-American because she is from Canada. Reminds me of the difficult time my wife had trying to explain to one of her students why a black British author was not a “British African-American.”

  • sandy

TERRIBLE JUST TERRIBLE WHAT HAPPENED TO HER EYE”S

  • Marie Michaelle

interesting. she looks beautiful. now she is her art since she can no longer see to paint

  • Domingo

I’m happy for her, she got what wanted.

  • Muhdin Hajji

I really wonder how such person can think right away, How some body who has green eyes be more beautiful than black-eye ball people? i dont think so, this is kind of pretending some body else but not a choice to better look. She must have envied about her boy friend. Allah created all creatures with the best possible way, if you are black than biologically you are fit to the nature you belong to not any nature that is belong to other people………….Now see the poor lady how she twisted here life from the bright light to a darkness and shame!!!!!!!!!!! it was said ” greediness brings empty handed”

  • Patrick Mukora

… do we feel sad for her or laugh at her stupidity ????

  • Ciru

    Just SAD

  • Libby

Umm…you people saying she’s trying to impress white people..you do know that plenty of white folks have brown eyes, right? O-o

    • ThomasER916

      Libby the Libtard.

    • MartinNYID

      indeed.

  • L

Those who say she was trying to impress white folk, you do know there are plenty of white folk with brown eyes, right? O-o

  • c684570

    Jealousy of Whites never ends.

That’s the problem with multiculturalism – non-Whites are either jealous of Whites or blame everything on us, or both.

    • abraba

What does that have to do with “multiculturalism”? You don’t understand what the term means apparently. “Multiculturalism” teaches people that their own ethnic background is worthy of pride, valid, and that all people’s traditions have a positive value among the mosaic of cultures. It has nothing whatsoever to do with “blaming.” Non-whites become jealous of Caucasians when there is a *lack* of multiculturalism — when people are taught that the prevailing white values and norms are more valid, more important, or “better” than their own backgrounds. If this woman lacked a pride in her own appearance, it has more to do with her LACK of cultural pride. But really, it is more about her own vanity in the end. Ridiculous that you could blame her misguided actions on “multiculturalism.”

  • Genserico Vandalo

Aesthetics Caucasian is fairest of all. This is fact.
Black is so proud of his color who prefer white women.

  • GeeMoeNettie

    Serves her right!

  • bubba

    Contacts…………need i say more

  • TheMsmother

    L M A O!!

  • Tai

I DONT feel sorry at all, and I dont think she should be near the top of any list for that transplant…

  • RaybanM

Just a girl who wanted different eye colour. Makes me laugh the stupidity and issues discussed as if she somehow dislikes herself or her ethnicity. Shes just made a mistake in life, we all do and have when young.. unfortunately she wasnt aware of the Dangers and actually some have had the operation and got along ok without these deep reactions or problems. I hope she gets a cornea transplant to restore her vision. Im sure she wont repeat this mistake.

    • Inny, Meeny, Miny, Mo!

All I have to say is: Sammy Sousa and Michael Jackson

  • Folayan A. Rasool

If the Idiot !! wanted to go blind she could have asked me to punch some sense into her empty head. I would have gladly done so.

    • abraba

Glad to hear how compassionate you are for a misguided individual. You would offer to punch someone out and make them blind? You are very abusive and have a shamefully violent attitude.

  • yagga62

welp how does blurred vision compliment your skin?

  • Inny, Meeny, Miny, Mo!

Why would an artist play with their vision?

  • DaRob

I believe the phrase we’re looking for is “Stupid bitch.”

  • DaRob

So, she deliberately chose a risky surgery that cost her her vision, and now she wants a cornea donor?! Tough titties, toots. But hey, when you’re reduced to panhandling on the street, I’ll keep an eye out for ya.

    • Weeg

      lol

    • abraba

Congratulations on your compassion and forgiveness. I hope people are keeping en eye out for you when you make a mistake in judgment.

  • meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

    stupid

  • Jacqueline Brown-Williams

Vanity is a sin. This beautiful woman just not seem to think enough of herself to just love herself as is. Well now she has disabled herself. Really sad. God bless her and help her through this.

  • Thrifty$$

I guess you achieved what you set out to achieve.#totalblindness

  • abraba

She did something foolhardy and misguided. But no one deserves to go blind because they made an error in judgment. As a wealthy celebrity, she may also have been misled about the risks of the procedure by greedy plastic surgeons. If someone is celebrating her blindness, they ought to be ashamed.
