Burnaby: Criminal Yacine Zouaoui guilty of second-degree murder in stabbing of Zsolt Csikos

Suspect convicted in 2011 Burnaby stabbing

VANCOUVER — A B.C. Supreme Court jury on Wednesday found Yacine Zouaoui guilty of second-degree murder in the 2011 stabbing of Zsolt Csikos.

Zouaoui fatally stabbed Csikos outside the victim’s apartment building in Burnaby in March of last year.

“The death of Mr. Csikos was quickly investigated with charges being laid against the person responsible, in part, [thanks] to the assistance of the general public,” Cpl. Adam MacIntosh of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said in a release.

Zouaoui’s sentencing is set for July 4.

METRO VANCOUVER — A 76-year-old man was robbed in broad daylight, seconds after withdrawing money from a Richmond city centre ATM.

The man had just taken money of the cash machine at the TD bank at 6380 No. 3 Rd. and then placed it in his shoulder bag.

But just outside the bank, a man attacked him from behind, grabbed his shoulder bag, pushed the senior to the ground and fled on foot.

The suspect was captured on surveillance video before the May 29 incident and is described as an Asian male, 20 to 30 years old, 5’8” tall, short black hair and was wearing a black and red ball cap, dark colored hoodie and shorts.

Even though he has only one leg, Qassim Abdulle helps any way he can when his family visits al-Salaam mosque in Burnaby once a month to pick up roughly 30 kilograms of food.

The 55-year-old Somalian refugee, who lives in east Burnaby with his wife and six children, had his leg amputated after a robber’s stray bullet shattered the bones during a 1995 attack near the Somalian border.
